The Lake Zarasatis peninsula has been known since the inter-war period in Lithuania. In 1933, when the town’s inhabitants became interested in watersports, one of the first open-air swimming pools in Lithuania to have a springboard was built on the shore of Lake Zarasaitis, near the source of the River Nikaja, near the ‘Aušros’ villa. Here, athletes used to prepare for various competitions, and interstate and intercity swimming competitions were held. For example, on 2 July 1937, L Kačinskas from Zarasai set a swimming record in the hundred metres breaststroke. In the post-war years, Zarasai’s swimming pool was the best in Lithuania. Zarasai’s watersports were made famous by the coaches, Henrikas Reingoldas, Pavelas Bezubovas, Andrius Frolovas, and Algis Štaras, and the swimmers, the Čarškiai brothers, V Vrubliauskas, L Kačinskas, Leonidas Bezubovas, Zigfridas Andersonas, and Artūras Štaras. Pavelas Bezubovas worked as a coach for the country’s national team, and Robertas Žulpa, a pupil of coach Arturas Štaras, became a champion at the Moscow Olympics in 1980. Before that, in 1965, a concrete trampoline was built to replace the former wooden one, the tourism infrastructure was improved, and a ten metre-high trampoline was built in an open-air swimming pool - the only one of its kind in Lithuania.

Beach of lake Zarasaitis was opened in 2014 May. The beach took a modern form by the architectural collective "a2sm” project. The beach of lake Zarasaitis with an open swimming pool is considered as the center of tourist attraction in Zarasai city. Many people remember summer in Zarasai because of leaps from the ten-meter springboard diving - unique in Lithuania. Now everyone can enjoy improvements in infrastructure of the springboard and the bridge surrounding the swimming pool.
