Description

The Energy Museum in Antalieptė was founded on the initiative of the Antalieptė community and the Vilnius University Young Energy Specialists' Club. The exhibition consists of several parts and presents the development of energy from the earliest times to the modern era, with much attention also given to a local landmark – the Antalieptė Hydroelectric Power Plant and its history. In 2024, the Energy Museum was named after Algimantas Žilėnas. A. Žilėnas (1930–1993) led the construction of the Antalieptė Hydroelectric Power Plant and, from 1960, headed the Zarasai district electricity network. The people of the Zarasai region remember him not only as a manager but also as a devoted local historian who made a great contribution to the cultural life of the region. Local history was Algimantas's passion, to which he devoted all his free time – he collected exhibits, wrote articles and books, and led the district Local History Society and the Zarasai Culture Foundation.
