Description
In the Lūžai forest, in the valley of the Šavaša River, there is an archaeological complex consisting of a hillfort more than two thousand years old and a Selonian barrow cemetery dating from the 8th–12th centuries. During archaeological surveys, remains of a cultural layer and some fragments of handmade striated and rough-surfaced pottery were found on the hillfort plateau and slopes, which suggests that, like other hillforts of the Striated Pottery culture, this one was used for quite a long time – from the 1st millennium BC until the first centuries AD, when it was finally abandoned.
