Description
Pakačiniai mound, also known as Dembai, is located in Antazavės šile. in 1933 the mound was explored by retired Lithuanian army colonel, archaeologist Petras Tarasenka. After examining several excavations on the western edge of the mound site (30 m 2 area) a cultural layer up to 1.5 m thick was discovered. Stone axes were found in it (one with a handle, the other with a hole for the handle), as well as a stone sharpener, a bone ax, an awl, a pin, many ceramic fragments, iron gargles and animal bones were collected. It was established that this mound, like many other mounds of the striped pottery culture in our region, was used for quite a long time - from the 1st millennium BC to the 10th century. until it was finally abandoned. The mound is suitable for visiting, with wooden stairs.
