Description
This trail introduces the natural treasures of Degučiai Landscape Reserve. Discover the plants and wildlife of a century-old pine forest, see a mysterious bog pool and marsh orchids listed in Lithuania's Red Data Book, climb the scenic Degučiai (Užusamanė) hillfort and pass a burial mound site dating from the 9th–12th centuries. You may even spot a boreal owl living in the pine woods of Gražutė Forest. The approximately 2.7 km nature trail forms an irregular figure of eight. Information boards and blue waymarks help walkers find their way through the forest. Allow two to three hours for a leisurely visit. The trail is designed for walkers, but mountain bikes can also be used; in snowy winters, skis are ideal. Cars can be parked at the far end of the recreation area. Afterwards, relax at the campsite and swim in Lake Samanis.
